Technical Training Courses & Industry Education

KMS Technologies provides several training courses to the industry. Our courses usually include a distinguished author and co-author. Our major interest courses are related to electromagnetics and integrated technology where our instructors are recognized professionals in oil and gas industry.

IN ADDITION: we have bundled course with equipment training, maintenance and acquisition, processing and interpretation training in one product EZ-MT (data sheet link)

In many cases our authors also provide technical mentoring to the individuals in our Client's organization. This usually requires a high level of trust and a long term relationship as our Clients must trust us with their confidential information and we must avoid competing relationship in parallel.

Following are the courses we offer. Each course has been taught several times to companies and universities.

Biography of Instructors

Dr. K.-M. Strack

Dr. K.-M. Strack is president of KMS Technologies- KJT Enterprises Inc. specializing on consulting in borehole geophysics, electromagnetics, advanced technologies and strategic business development. He lead the company from its beginning to a record sale in 2007 and during the financial crises moved it to employee ownership. As Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston, Mahidol University Bangkok where he develops links between the reservoir and surface geophysical data. Before starting KJT Enterprises, Kurt served as Chief Scientist for Baker Atlas in Houston after being Resistivity Product Line manager and Advanced Scientific Research Department manager. There he supported Logging Tool Development and Interpretation through Modeling yielding numerous new logging tools. Prior to that Kurt pioneered LOTEM (Surface transient electromagnetics for hydrocarbon exploration) development and several advanced borehole research ideas in Germany, Australia and the USA. Kurt received a Ph.D. from the University of Cologne, Germany and a M.Sc. from Colorado School of Mines. He worked over the past 20 years as a geophysical consultant and as university researcher and teacher as R & D manager in the geothermal and logging industry.

Kurt received for his contributions to borehole geophysics several awards (Distinguished Technical Achievement award of SPWLA; Reginald Fessenden Award of SEG; Kapitsa Gold Medal of Honor from the Russian Academy of Sciences) and many others. In 2012 he received s founder KMS Technologies the Cecil H. Green Enterprise Award for building the company and successfully selling it in a record deal.

Kurt has published over 100 publications, 1 textbook and authors/co-authors over 10 patents. He also received a Fulbright scholarship and numerous international grants/awards throughout his career. His main interest is integrated geophysics, inversion, and technology transfer and project development. He is a member of SPWLA, AAPG, ASEG, DGG, BDG, SPE, SEG and EAGE. Kurt was also honored with the Foreign Membership to the Russian Academy of Sciences. He was 1998-1999 SPE distinguished lecturer on Through Casing Resistivity. Apart from chairing many workshops at International Conventions he was co-chairman of 3 SEG Summer research workshops on: Integration of Seismic Data with Well Logs (1995), NMR Imaging of Reservoir Attributes (1998), and Effective Technology Transfer of Model-based Geo-Inversion Techniques (1999). He was also co-chairman of the SPWLA topical conference on Borehole Anisotropy (April 2000) and Guest Editor of the special issue of Petrophysics on Borehole Anisotropy. Kurt has taught courses and mentored many students and professionals at many universities and many companies in the international oil industry.

Dr. Leon Thomsen

Dr. Leon Thomsen has over 30 years experience in seismic technology including 11 years in academia.  He is an expert in anisotropy and has been involved in electromagnetics since 2000. He interest is marine CSEM and transition of EM to seismic. Leon is a world leader in seismic geophysics and a phantastic instructor.
